Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Salem was established in 1986 under G.O.Ms.No.2185/85 Home (POL XVI) Dept., dated 02.09.1985. It is under the administrative control of the Deputy Director RFSL, Salem. Forensic examinations are carried out in the fields of Biology, Narcotics, Prohibition and Toxicology. Cases are received from the Courts, Medical Officers and Crime Investigation Officers (rank of DSP and above). There are three Mobile Forensic Science Laboratories (MFSL) under the control of RFSL, Ramanathapuram (Salem District, Salem City and Namakkal). This laboratory imparts training to in-service forensic scientists, Police Personnel and Medical Officers. It organizes in house seminars and guest lectures on the recent trends in Forensic Science. The scientists from this Laboratory
underwent training at various national level organizations to enrich their knowledge.
