Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Ramanathapuram was established in 1996 under G.O.Ms.No.156 Home (POL XVI) Dept., dated 01.02.1996. It is under the administrative control of the Deputy Director RFSL, Ramanathapuram. Forensic examinations are carried out in the fields of Biology, Narcotics, Prohibition and Toxicology. Cases are received from the Courts, Medical Officers and Crime Investigation Officers (rank of DSP and above) under the jurisdiction of Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Sivagangai. There are three Mobile Forensic Science Laboratories (MFSL) under the control of RFSL, Ramanathapuram (Ramanathapuram Virudhunagar and Sivagangai). This laboratory imparts training to in-service forensic scientists, Police Personnel and Medical Officers. It organizes in house seminars and guest lectures on the recent trends in Forensic Science. The scientists from this Laboratory underwent training at various national level organizations to enrich their knowledge.
